Major Change to the 2006 ICF International Competition Calendar

The USA's world-class wildwater program is still in its infancy.

There has been a major change to the 2006 ICF International Competition Calendar for the Wildwater Discipline.

David Yarborough, the Executive Director of USA Canoe/Kayak reports that "there is a withdrawal of plans for the UK to host the 2006 Wildwater Senior worlds at Bala. The ICF is soliciting new bids from European Federations that are due by December 15."

We understand that the apparent reason for the cancellation of the Bala venue for the 06 Worlds was a conflict between the local Welsh Canoeing Association (WCA) and the Bala World's Organizers. Apparently, WCA wanted (among other things) fees for the use of the river in Bala that are well beyond the means of the organizer and the Wildwater community.

Although we are very disappointed for the Bala World Championships organizers and racers in the UK, we are excited to see the ICF react quickly to replace the Bala World Championships venue. Please stay tuned to USAWildwater.com for breaking information!!!!
