The Junior Wildwater program is thriving in Colorado! This is largely in part to the efforts of Nate Lord of the Dawson School and Chris Wiegand of the Front Range Paddling Association. I am truly excited about these programs as they are developing some fabulous racers. Many of the members of this year's Junior Team are from the region!

When you talk to Nate and Chris individually they both really credit each other for the success of their Junior Programs. Both programs teach Wildwater as well as Slalom and Freestyle in all sorts of boats.

The Dawson School program runs during the spring months and encourages students to try out a variety of boats in all disciplines. Currently they compete against three other Colorado Schools. For more information on the Dawson School program, contact Nate Lord at: nlord@dawsonschool.org

The Front Range Paddling Association is a year round program with members from all over the region. The program is headed by Chris Wiegand who serves as Executive Director and the Junior Wildwater Team Coach. The biggest challenge he faces is financial support and getting more Wildwater boats physically into the program. For more information please contact Chris at chris@wiegand.com or see their website at http://www.whitewaterracing.org

This year's Western Junior Trials was heavily attended by juniors from the regions as well as those from the rest of the US who could not attend Eastern Trials. It was a real pleasure for me to race with future of our sport. Tom Gray's skills in C-1 are phenomenal and I trust his training this summer will cause him gain speed. We also have a solid junior women's team as Lisa Adams, Perin Pring, and Erin Wilder will be joined by Emily Stien who qualified at Eastern trails.

In K-1, the hard work that Nic Borst has put in this year is really starting to pay off. Nic's results in the sprint race made me feel that he is one of the fastest K-1s in America. Clay Wilder also looked solid and Kal Eisenberg is progressing nicely. They will race in Europe with junior superstar Geoff Cahoun who qualified at Eastern Trials.

I can't wait to see how we do in Europe. I'm also looking forward to racing with our juniors at the USA Nationals in August and observing their progress. Without a doubt, we will have several juniors receiving metals on the podium in the open/senior classes.
