Call for Nominations: USACK Wildwater Committee

Nominations are being sought for qualified individuals to serve on the 2014-15 Wildwater Committee.

The members of the wildwater committee are elected by members of USACK to serve two year terms. The term for the current board expires at the end of 2013. Nominations are being sought for the positions below on the wildwater committee. Please note that the structure of the board has changed. For descriptions of the responsibilities of each position, see below.

Nomination Process: (All nominations must follow this process to qualify):
All nominations are to be sent to Gerald Babao, USACK headquarters, by email to gerald@usack.org no later than November 30th, 2013. The person making the nomination and the nominee are both required to be USACK (WWC affiliate) Members in good standing. Submissions must contain the USACK numbers and contact information (email) for both the nominee and the nominator. The nominee must be willing to serve on the WWC and should be truly dedicated to the betterment of Wildwater racing. As part of the process, Gerald Babao will verify that the nominee wishes to serve.

Gerald will forward all qualified nominations to the USAWildwater Webmaster. All nominations will be updated on a post on www.USAWildwater.com periodically and prior to elections in an e-Zine.

Candidates may post campaign information or articles of interest on www.USAWildwater.com by sending their articles to the USAWildwater Webmaster.

Election Process:
Gerald Babao will forward all qualified nominations to the USAWildwater Webmaster.

  • The USAWildwater.com Webmaster will post the complete list of nominations on USAWildater.com and will send out an e-zine with the names of the nominees.
  • For contested positions, a call for votes will be sent out no later than December 14th. The nominee for any uncontested position will automatically be placed onto the wildwater committee.
  • All votes must be submitted by email to gerald@usack.org no later than December 31st, 2013.
  • All voters must be USAC (WWC affiliate) Members in good standing.
  • The description of the WWC positions to be selected is below.

Wildwater Committee Officers (Elected Voting Positions)

Chair
The Chair of the wildwater committee is responsible for overseeing all other board members. In addition, the chair will:

  • Take the lead role in communications with USACK, our national governing body
  • Schedule regular meetings of the wildwater committee (once per quarter)
  • Publish minutes of each wildwater committee meeting
  • Seek out new volunteers for the sport of USA Wildwater
  • Work with other board members and the wildwater community to develop long term goals and plans for the sport
  • The chair of the committee is a voting member of the wildwater committee.

Fundraising Chair
The fundraising chair is responsible for:

  • Communicating with current and past donors to wildwater about the current events in the sport at least 2 times per year.
  • Seeking out new donors or streams of revenue for USA Wildwater
  • Listing specific needs of USA Wildwater and asking donors to support one of those needs
  • Maintaining our accounts with Paypal and iGive.com (or other electronic donation services) to ensure a simple and quick donations to USA Wildwater as well as an electronic database of past donors for future. This includes designing system so donors get an automated receipt for their 501c donation.
  • The fundraising chair is a voting member of the wildwater committee.

Communications Chair:
The communications chair is responsible for communication between the board and the general wildwater membership. To fulfill this responsibility, the communications chair does the following tasks:

  • Update/maintain the existing information on USAWildwater.com as needed.
  • Create and maintain the calendar on USAWildwater.com, seeking information from the net and various sources for races to be added to the calendar.
  • Seek and/or create news items and add them to the website.
  • Search for race results and, when necessary, put the info to the website.
  • Perform all necessary work to create and publish the annual USA Wildwater rankings.
  • Maintain the distribution list for mailing the USA Wildwater newsletter (e-Zine).
  • Publish the USA Wildwater newsletter (e-Zine) on an as needed basis.
  • Pay the annual fees for the web hosting and domain name.
  • The communications chair is a voting member of the wildwater committee.

Treasurer
The treasurer is responsible for maintaining the financial records for USA Wildwater. This includes:

  • Tracking income and expenses during each calendar year.
  • Making regular reports about finances to the chair and the committee as a whole.
  • Work directly with fundraising chair to maintain database of past donors electronically
  • Maintaining records of current and past wildwater budgets passed by the committee.
  • Communication with USACK to ensure the funds for USA Wildwater are correctly accounted for, and organization remains in compliance with IRS guidelines regarding 501c status of USACK.
  • The treasurer is a voting member of the wildwater committee.

Junior/Senior Trials East Chair & Junior/Senior Trials West Chair
The chair of Junior/Senior trials East or West is responsible for:

  • Finding team trials locations in the appropriate region of the US at least one calendar year in advance of the races, and ideally two years in advance.
  • Providing race directors with support to ensure a quality wildwater event occurs, specifically providing race director links to registration, timing, start list templates, safety recommendations, USACK liability waivers and event insurance documents.
  • Working with the communications chair to keep an updated master copy of all required documents for assisting race directors on USAWW website.
  • Coordinating with race directors on publicity.
  • Coordinating between race director and USAWW sponsors to provide for at cost or in kind donations to event prizes.
  • Coordinating with race director to set budget for events and obtain payment from USA WW funds. Additionally, review of race director’s expenditures is required prior to payment from wildwater committee funds.
  • Providing the communications chair with flyer information to notify membership about the race location and registration.
  • Advising race director on obtaining a PA system and timing materials specifically stopwatches or laser eye systems.
  • Planning for wildwater clinics, demos, and other events at the race to promote the sport of wildwater.
  • The junior/senior team trials chairs are voting members of the wildwater committee.

Nationals Chair
The chair of Nationals is responsible for:

  • Finding locations for nationals at least one calendar year in advance of the races, and ideally two years in advance.
  • Providing race directors with support to ensure a quality wildwater event occurs, specifically providing race director links to registration, timing, start list templates, safety recommendations, USACK liability waivers and event insurance documents.

Athlete Representative (2)
The duties of the athlete representative are as follows:

  • Maintain regular contact with current, active wildwater racers across the country.
  • Communicate the views of the athletes to the board.
  • Aide the communications chair in communicating board decisions to the athletes.
  • The Athlete Representative shall have participated in Wildwater National Championships within the past two years, or have been a member of the US Wildwater Team within the past four years.
  • The athlete representatives are voting members of the wildwater committee.
