USA Junior Wildwater Athletes are in Opava, Czech Republic

The junior athletes in Opava, Czech Republic have completed their first race in the 2011 Junior World Championships. Wednesday's race was the classic team race, in which we had three teams competing in C2, K1 Men, and K1 Women. On Tuesday all athletes completed a Time Trial to determine which athletes would participate in the team races. The men's kayak team consisted of Cully Brown, Spencer Huff, and Elliot Bertrand. Their performance was better than expected and all three of them had a great race, finishing in 14th overall. The C2 team was made up of Bryson Popp/Alex Sumida, Will Coggan/Gabe Machado, and David McConnell/Devon Dapuzzo. Despite being overtaken, they all came across the finish line strong chasing the French team in front of them. Naomi Everhart and Haley Popp teamed up with Aisling Smith of Ireland to compete in a mixed international team race. Although they were officially forerunners and did not score, they had a fun race with smooth lines and smiles on their faces at the finish.
