2010 Golden Downriver Race

April 28, 2010 -- Glenwood Springs, CO

I'm pleased to report that we had a great turn out for our race in Golden last Friday. We had a strong contingent of wildwater kayaks and short kayaks, but this race did not feature any C-1s, C-2s, or OC-2s. The course was sprint length starting well above the slalom course and ending below the slalom course. A fast time was under five minutes, and Cully Brown, the prodigy from Durango had the best time of the day.

This year the water was still low and the course was quite bony, though there was still enough water to protect the boats. There were no swimmers, and the racers enjoyed brisk, but sunny weather. Some of our top competitors were at Wausau for Slalom Team Trials, but we had many paddlers who were enthusiastic about racing downriver.

We are very much looking forward to the Crystal River Race next weekend in Carbondale where DR is a long standing tradition at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School.
