2009 NRC Glacier Breaker

The 2009 Nantahala Racing Club Glacier Breaker Wildwater race will take place on the Nantahala River, Wesser NC on Sunday March 1st. This annual event is a classic only race and will start at the Ledges rapid and end at the old road bridge at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, about 5km downstream. Winning K1 times will be about 19 minutes. Please join us for the southeast's season opener. River releases are on an as needed energy basis the weekend before and during the week. Guaranteed practice water is available Friday and Saturday, so come up early and enjoy the whitewater and Smoky Mountains.

Schedule: Sunday March 1st, 2009

  • 9-10am -- Wildwater Registration Rivers End Restaurant
  • 10:30am -- Competitors Meeting / Boat loading NOC Rentals Parking Area
  • 11:30am -- Wildwater Race starts at the Ledges Nantahala River
  • 12:30pm -- Awards Rivers End Restaurant

Classes:

  • K-1, K-1W, C-1, C-2
  • Open (all), Masters (age >40), Juniors (age 15-18), Cadets (age <14)
  • It takes 3 boats to make a class

Course:

  • The Wildwater race will be a classic race from the Ledges on the Nantahala River to the old bridge at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Class II-III Whitewater.

Entry Fees:

  • Wildwater – $20.00 per person
  • USACK membership required. One-day USACK memberships available at registration.
