March 8, 2008 -- Wesser, NC

March 22-23 marks the return of the Nantahala Racing Club US Open to the Nantahala River in Wesser, NC. The US Open is a two day race featuring a Sprint thru Pattons Run Rapid on day one and a European length Classic on day two from Ferebee Park to just below the Ledges Rapid. The Sprint can take as little as 70 seconds and requires a fast butesricky exit of the main rapid. Lots of fun. The Classic can be as short as 11 minutes and includes all the classically fun Nantahala Rapids including Quarry, Root Canal and Whirlpool. You may choose to only race one day if necessary. The US Open happens just two weeks before US Team Trials and is a great opportuning to see how your final preperations are coming along. Your entry includes an event t-shirt and dinner on Saturday afternoon courtesy of the Nantahala Outesor Center. Event scheduling for this weekend will also allow you to compete in the slalom race or use the additional time to continuing training on the river that will remain on all weekend.

For a visitors guide to the area including local accommodations, restaurants and attractions, please visit www.greatsmokies.com.

Thanks to the continued generous support of Duke Energy, we have training water scheduled Friday 7:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday 5:00am - 5:00pm and Sunday 5am-3:00pm. Additional releases can be confirmed by visiting www.nantahalapower.com/lakes/generation/. Water takes approximately 2.5 hours to get to the NOC once turned on.

Please consider pre-registering. USACK membership is mandatory and event only memberships will be available at registration.
NOTE: DESPITE WHAT THE ENTRY FORM SAYS, WE WILL ACCEPT WILDWATER ENTRIES AT THE SCHEDULED COMPETITORS MEETINGS ON BOTH DAYS.
