January 21, 2008 -- Marietta, GA
Jens Perlwitz, Chairman of the Wildwater Racing Committee of the International Canoeing Federation, has added three upcoming USA
venues to the International Calendar. They are the 2008 USA Wildwater National Championships, the 2009 USA Wildwater National
Championships, and the 2009 Fibark Classic Downriver Race.
The USA Nationals in 2008 are being held Aug 1-3, 2008 on the Deerfield River, Charlemont, MA. The Deerfield is a wonderful wildwater
venue and our 2007 Nationals were well attended by the Canadians. August 1-3 is a perfect date for this event.
We expect the race to be very well attended by racers from CAN, USA and potentially other countries.
The USA will host two international wildwater events in 2009. They are the USA Wildwater Nationals and the FIBArk classic downriver
race. Both events wil be held on the Arkansas River in Salida, CO. The Nationals will be on June 18-19, 2009 and the FIBArk classic
downriver race will be two days later (on June 21). With the 2009 World Cups being held in Tasmaning this is the perfect time to
hold a mega event in conjunction with FIBArk. The FIBArk/Nationals Race Director will work closely with USA Wildwater to help build
the 2009 event to an international race of choice! The FIBArk whitewater festival is one of the largest on the planet and the FIBArk
classic downriver race is one of the longest running downriver/wildwater races.
So with that in mind, the ICF has designated these 3 venues as international races!
