2007 Junior Wildwater Team Trials (West)

Durango, Colorado - May 4-6, 2007

March 19, 2007 -- Durango, CO

Registration deadline May 2nd. Go to www.dgowhitewater.com for registration forms and waivers.

The River:
The Animas River flows from the heart of the San Juan Mountains through what is now downtown Durango. River flow begins increasing at this time of year, and depending on temperature and additional snows, could reach 1,000 CFS. The river's anticipated CFS will be posted near the race date. Class 2 and 3 rapids can be expected throughout the race courses. The races begin at two riverside parks, both of which offer covered pavilions, restroom facilities and easy access to restaurants and downtown accommodations. A pedestrian/bike path connects the two parks and continues along the Animas in both directions. A local commercial outfitter will supply bus and trailer for athlete and boat transportation where needed. The Animas River is open to the public but no commercial traffic is anticipated at this date.

The Town:
Durango's 6,500' elevation allows for cool nights and often very warm days. Expect daytime temperatures in the high 70s. However, snowstorms are not uncommon here even in late May! Both parks are within walking distance from downtown Durango where a wide variety of restaurants and lodging are available. DWW can provide limited homestays to participating athletes as well. Contact Susan at spschraa@gobrainstorm.net.
Saturday, May 5th check-out the 4 Corners Riversports Gear Swap, 9 am - 5 pm. A great source of new and used river gear!
The nearest airport is the Durango- La Plata, a 20-minute drive from town, serviced by shuttles from Denver, Phoenix and Albuquerque.
