March 1, 2007 -- Ohiopyle, PA
Wilderness Voyageurs has been awarded the bid for the US Senior Team Trials on the Youghiogheney River in southwestern
Pennsylvania. Wilderness Voyageurs (www.wilderness-voyageurs.com), the first Ohiopyle rafting company, has played a
significant role on the Yough (and throughout the East) since 1959. The US Wildwater Community is honored to have Wilderness
Voyageurs serve as Anchor Sponsor for the 2007 US Wildwater Trials.
Both the Sprint and Classic Events will take place on the Yough, but on differing stretches. The Sprint event will begin
at the “normal” Loop put-in, and conclude just below Cucumber Falls. The Classic event, which takes place on Sunday, will
begin just above Dimples Rapid and run through Bruners Run Rapid. For those unfamiliar with the Yough, a map may be viewed at
this web address:
www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/maps/ohiopyle_rapids.pdf.
The Youghiogheney River is located in southwestern Pennsylvania. For those caring to fly to the Trials, Pittsburgh would
probably be the closest major airport. It’s a 2-hour trip from PIT to the Ohiopyle, PA. There are a number of places to stay
in/around the Ohiopyle area. Camping, B&B, motel - all available. Wilderness’ own website has an abundance of information on
accommodations at:
www.wilderness-voyageurs.com/accomodations_hotels_resorts.htm".
