2006 USA Wildwater National Championships and Western Junior Team Trials Update

Hosted by FIBArk on June 15-18

by Edwin Loeffel (e_loeffel@hotmail.com)

June 4, 2006 -- Salida, CO

FIBArk will host the Nationals and Junior team Trials during the weekend of the annual FIBArk Whitewater Festival from the 15th through the 18th of June.

The Sprint will be held on Friday the 16th through Cottonwood Rapid 22 miles East of Salida. The staging and launch site is the Bighorn RV Park in Coaldale 20 miles East of Salida. The park is on your left if you are traveling from Salida on the Eastern edge of Coaldale. Please park in designated areas at the park which will be marked with orange paint.

Tent camping will be available on Thursday night at Bighorn Park. A discounted rate of $5.00 per tent will be provided by the owners – just let them know you are with the boat race. Make reservations by phone at 719-942-4266 or 719-371-2277 or online by clicking the “Contact Us” button at www.bighornpark.com.

Registration will be available starting at 7:30 am at Bighorn Park and is also available on Thursday evening in downtown Salida next to Headwaters Outdoor Equipment at the Northeast end of “F” Street. Check out the map at www.playandstay.info/maps/salida_flash.html.

Registration will close at 9:00 am and a pre-race meeting will be held at 9:30 near the registration area. Bibs will be distributed at the meeting.

The Sprint course starts approximately a mile below Bighorn Park launch site on river right. A shuttle will return contestants from the finish to the launch for the second heat and after the race is completed. The course is approximately 0.25 miles in length.

The Classic will held on Saturday the 16th. The race will start in downtown Salida upstream from the Boatramp on river right. Additional information will be provided at the pre-race meeting on Friday. The course is slightly less than 4 miles to the gaging station at the Chaffee/Fremont County line about 3 miles East of Salida. A shuttle will be provided to return contestants to downtown Salida.

You can save some time and work for the registrars by registering online at the FIBArk web site, www.fibark.net or you can complete the registration form and USACK and ACA wavier forms listed below. The Entry and USACK Waiver-Release forms are set up so you can type the information into the form when you display it and before you print it. That really helps as it is sometimes difficult to read handwritten forms.
