Dear Wildwater Racers and Friends:

Congratulations to the organizers, volunteers and athletes who made the Glenwood Wildwater Jubilee and Western US Junior Wildwater Team Trials a great success. There were over 40 boaters on the river that weekend and over twenty seven of those were in wildwater boats. That is awesome!! (Read more about this event and see who qualified for the USA Junior Wildwater Team in first two articles below.)

The complete list of who qualified for the Junior Team at the Eastern and Western Team Trials includes:

  • K-1 Men
Michael Autenrieth - Seattle, WA; Elliot Bertrand - New York City, NY; Cully Brown -Durango, CO; Spencer Huff - Lyons, CO; JP Griffith - Denver, CO (alternate)

  • K-1 Women
Haley Popp - Chattanooga, TN; Sarah Neimeyer of LaFayette, CO; Naomi Everhart of Boulder, CO; Kelsey Freeman of Carbondale, CO

  • C-1 Men
    Even Cornish of Boulder, CO

  • C-2 Men
Alex Sumida/Bryson Popp - Chattanooga, TN; Devon Dapuzzo/David McConnell; Nick Rinyard/Zach Gallup; Will Coggan/Gabriel Machado

I still do not know which of these athletes have committed to represent the USA at the 2011 Junior World Championships in July in the Czech Republic. I will post an article on USAWildwater.com as soon as I receive the information.

Anyone who wishes to help us support the USA Wildwater Junior Team (and/or coaching, training camps, and development) can make (tax deductible) donations to USA Wildwater through our national governing body USA Canoe/Kayak. Go to our website link at www.usawildwater.com/donate.html to see how easy it is to make a donation online or by check. (Make sure you designate your donation for Wildwater.)

The "Athletes" page on USAWildwater.com (http://www.usawildwater.com/athletes.html) now includes biographical information on some of the athletes on the Junior Team. I will add to the "Athletes" page as I receive the information from the rest of the team members.

The 2011 USA Wildwater Championships is the next major event on our calendar. The "Nationals" is being held in conjunction with FIBArk in Salida, Colorado. The wildwater schedule includes the Sprint training camp (6/14), Classic training camp (6/15), Nationals Sprint (6/16), Nationals Classic (6/17), Open Head-to-Head Sprint (6/18) and the FIBArk Classic 26-Miler (6/19). See the FIBArk website at www.fibark.org for more about these events and all of the activities planned to FIBArk.

Susan Hollingsworth had her artcicle "Women Gone Wildwater" published in Canoe & Kayak magazine. Check it out in your copy of the magazine.
