Dear Wildwater Racers and Friends:

The NRC Glacier Breaker was held last weekend (February 26-27). This event included a wildwater sprint race on Saturday and a wildwater classic race on Sunday. Members of the US National Wildwater Team also participated in a training camp before the Glacier Breaker. The first article has more about the event, including the results and a "trip report" by John Pinyerd. Thanks to Chris Hipgrave for all his work making the Glacier Breaker an outstanding event.

This month we have the WKC Cedar River Race on March 12 on the Cedar River near Maple Valley, WA and the US Open and Eastern US Wildwater Junior Team Trials on March 26-27 on the Nantahala River near Wesser, NC. These events will be closely followed by the Western US Wildwater Junior Team Trials on April 16-17 (as part of the 7th Annual Glenwood Wildwater Jubilee in Glenwood Canyon, CO). Watch our website for more about these events.

The US Wildwater National Championships are being held in conjunction with FIBArk this summer. See the FIBArk article for the details.

I received news from Jack Ditty about the Senior Wildwater Team Trials (on the Russell Fork near Elkhorn City, KY). Jack has been working with the KY State Tourism Department and the US Army Corps of Engineers to try to get a special release in August. Unfortunately, the US Army Corps of Engineers will not guarantee the special release so we are going to have to hold the team trials in October (when there are guaranteed releases on weekends). The weekend of the Senior Wildwater Team Trials is October 15-16.

Watch our calendar (www.usawildwater.com/races/2011_Calendar.pdf) for more about these and other wildwater/downriver races. (If you know of a race that is not on the calendar, send me the info and I will add it.)

In other news, Jeff Parker is trying to put together a group order of Prijon wildwater boats. You can learn more about this in Jeff's article. Also, the USACK Wildwater Committee (WWC) met on February 20th. In addition to reports on upcoming events, we discussed and approved our 2011 budget.

Anyone who wishes to help us provide for USA Wildwater Team (and/or coaching, training camps, and development) can make (tax deductible) donations to USA Wildwater through our national governing body USA Canoe/Kayak. Go to our website link at www.usawildwater.com/donate.html to see how easy it is to make a donation online or by check. (Make sure you designate your donation for Wildwater.)

Finally, here's a special thanks to Chris Norbury for his hard work for the USA Wildwater Team. Chris has spent countless hours working with other wildwater team members to provide training camps for the team. He even had a few minutes to spare to send me some updates for the "Current Athletes" section of our website.
