Dear Wildwater Racers and Friends:

This certainly is a busy season for Wildwater Racers! The Bank of America US Open was held on March 25-26. We also had the 2006 USA Canoe & Kayak Wildwater Senior and East Coast Junior Team Trials and the Webster Weekend Downriver Race on April 1-2. The results from the US Open and Team Trials are featured below. The results of the Webster Weekend Downriver Race can be found at http://www.websterwv.com/results.html.

Several other races were held in March:

Next up are the Sinnemahoning Creek Downriver Race (April 8th) and the 38th Annual Southeastern US Whitewater Championships (the downriver race is scheduled for April 15th on the Nantahala River). The Kern River Downriver Race and the 40th Annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race are also scheduled for the weekend of April 15th. More information about these and other races can be found on the USAWildwater.com calendar.

Congratulations are in order for the 3 dozen USA racers who placed in the ICF 2005 World Rankings. If you raced at the 2005 USA Team Trails and Nationals you may be ranked!

Continuing on the international scene, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) has been busy with almost daily updates to their web site (www.canoeicf.com/). There are links to the most recent information from the ICF and the race organizers concerning the 2006 Senior Wildwater World Championships and the 2006 Masters International Race. Both events will be held in Karlovy Vary (CZE) in mid-June.

Last, but not least, the USA Wildwater Committee (WWC) of the USA Canoe/Kayak Team recognized four of their key volunteers during the awards ceremony at USA Team Trials,. I was honored to be one of the four I also found it interesting that the guy who asked me if I was interested in being the webmaster for USAWildwater.com was one of the other three volunteers. Thanks (I think), Chris.

Seriously, it was an easy decision for me to make. I had volunteered to help with the team trials when they were held on the Gauley River a few years ago. I was really impressed by the group of paddlers who raced that weekend. Their dedication to wildwater racing and their willingness to share and help other team members was evident. I am not a racer but I sure like being an honorary member of the team.
